Zane Gonzalez, former Deer Park High School standout, is the new starting kicker for the Arizona Cardinals.

Drafted in 2016 by the Cleveland Browns (seventh round, 224th overall) Gonzalez was released after Week 2. He signed on with the Arizona practice squad earlier this month and was promoted to starter after Cardinals incumbent Phil Dawson was placed on injured reserve after Sunday’s game. This year, Gonzalez is 2-5 in field goal attempts and perfect on extra points.

In his second season in the NFL, Gonzalez is a career 68 percent field goal kicker and is 90 percent on extra points. The 23-year-old also averages just short of 60 yards in kickoffs.

Gonzalez returns to Arizona where he starred collegiately at Arizona State.
