Colts' 'middle man' helps Luck progress

Drew Stanton feels good about his relatively anonymous, if well-compensated, job with the Indianapolis Colts. Call him the quarterback middle man.

Stanton went from Detroit to New York (briefly) to Indianapolis, where his job is to counsel, push and prod rookie franchise player Andrew Luck and third-string rookie Chandler Harnish.

Packers, LG T.J. Lang agree to four-year extension

The Packers have locked up another key member of their close-knit offensive line. LG T.J. Lang has agreed to a four-year contract extension, his agent announced Monday night on Twitter. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. With Lang signed through 2016, the Packers have their top six linemen under contract for at least the next two seasons.

Maywood's Brown to host first music fest

Basketball was Phoenix Suns guard Shannon Brown's ticket out of the streets.

Brown, a six-year NBA veteran, is now hoping to provide others their ticket out. He will be raising money for The Shannon Brown Foundation, which provides college scholarships to high school students, while hosting the inaugural Wood-Star Music Festival at Union Park in Chicago from Friday to Sunday.

Wendling gets shot to replace Delmas

Special-teams ace John Wendling will get the first crack at replacing Louis Delmas in the Lions' secondary.

Wendling, 29, took first-team safety reps Thursday alongside Erik Coleman and is expected to start tonight's exhibition opener against the Browns. Amari Spievey, a starter most of the past two seasons, worked with the second team Thursday.

Timberwolves second-round draft pick Robbie Hummel has signed a one-year contract to play this season with Obradoiro CAB in Santiago, Spain.

Hummel, a 6-foot-8 forward who averaged 16.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game at Purdue last season, was drafted 58th overall by Wolves president of basketball operations David Kahn this summer.
